Milence opens new charging station for electric trucks at Volvo factory

Milence, the joint venture of Daimler Truck, TRATON GROUP, and Volvo Group, has opened a new public charging hub for electric trucks in Ghent. This significantly strengthens the network for zero-emission road transport in and around North Sea Port.

Strategic location for international transport
Milence's fourth loading hub is strategically situated at North Sea Port, right next to the Volvo Trucks factory in Ghent, near the R4 ring road and the intersection of the European motorways E17 and E4. The hub promotes new electric transport routes via the TEN-T North Sea–Mediterranean Corridor and supports the greening of freight transport. Thanks to its location in North Sea Port, this hub enhances connectivity between Belgium and key logistics regions in France, the Netherlands, and Germany.

“Ghent is an important logistical gateway, and this new hub strengthens our network along Europe’s main freight corridors,” says Anja van Niersen, CEO of Milence.

The Volvo Group also emphasises the importance of collaboration. “With the opening of the first part of this mobility hub, we are taking another step forward in the sustainable transformation of our site, North Sea Port, and the transport sector,” said Koen Leemans, Head of Volvo Group Belgium.

Charging hub designed with comfort and user-friendliness in mind
The loading hub focuses on comfort and ease of use. For transport companies operating across borders, the location offers a practical loading solution along one of Europe's main transport corridors. The loading hub is suitable for electric trucks of all brands and is specially designed for professional transport. Drive-through charging points, easy access, and sanitary facilities ensure comfort and convenience for drivers during their rest breaks.

Innovative charging technology for the future
In the first phase, the Ghent charging hub features four powerful CCS charging points with a capacity of up to 400 kW, allowing electric trucks to charge quickly and efficiently during their route. In a subsequent phase, Milence is developing the transition to Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, enabling truck batteries to be recharged in 30 to 45 minutes—crucial for intensive, international transport.
