North Sea Port is the 60-kilometre-long cross-border port area that extends from Vlissingen in the Netherlands on the North Sea, via Terneuzen on the Western Scheldt, to Ghent – 32 kilometres inland – in Belgium. Within the range of European seaports, North Sea Port is in eighth place when it comes to the amount of goods handled. Regarding added value, North Sea Port is even in third place. The port provides direct and indirect employment for approximately 100,000 people, making an indispensable contribution to prosperity in the cross-border region.
The Promotion Council North Sea Port Foundation is an initiative of the port business community. The main objective is to strengthen the economic and social position of the port and the region. Companies and institutions that have a direct or indirect interest in that goal can become a member of the foundation. The Promotion Council is a network organisation and business club that brings parties involved in the port together and connects them in an active and sustainable port community. The Council is the 'community centre' of the port. Promotion Council North Sea Port offers a platform for meeting, exchanging information, and doing business
Through this port community, the Promotion Council promotes the port both nationally and internationally as an attractive gateway to North-western Europe that offers all the necessary logistics and maritime facilities, where there is space, and as the congestion-free alternative for surrounding seaports. Promoting the distinctive advantages of the port in general and of the logistics and maritime services of the members of the Council requires permanent action. Promotion Council North Sea Port is ambassador of the port and contributes to maintaining and strengthening social support for the port and the activities of its participants.
