On 20 June, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Belgium, Brechje Schwachofer, the Consul General Karen van Stegeren, the Ambassador of Belgium to the Netherlands, Anick Van Calster, and the Diplomatic Representative of Flanders to the Netherlands, Nick Van der Marliere, visited North Sea Port.
The informal introduction centred on strong cross-border cooperation for a sustainable and safe port, and focused on two pressing themes: energy transition and subversive crime.
Energy transition
In conversation with Dow and during a bus tour through Vlissingen-Oost, it became clear how our seaport is developing into a centre-pivot in the European energy transition. Think large-scale hydrogen, electrification and offshore wind projects.
Security and subversive crime
During a lunch discussion and a visit to the logistics company Lineage, the joint fight against subversion – a responsibility that the government (Seaport Police, Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, Customs) and the business community bear together – was discussed in more detail.
