On the occasion of Mervielde’s 80th anniversary last year, the company sought to honour the past while looking to the future. To that end, Mervielde donated 15,115€ to Fonds LISA, a non-profit dedicated to helping young people succeed in higher education despite challenging circumstances.
Created to provide opportunities for ambitious students, Fonds LISA was established in 2014 on the belief that talent should not be lost to financial or personal hardships beyond students' control. Last academic year, the fund supported 85 students in obtaining their diplomas. The emphasis is on more than financial aid; it’s about a personalised approach that encourages students to persist and complete their studies.
Depending on the individual situation, support is provided for, among other things, tuition fees, study materials, books, internships, and other necessary costs associated with a study programme. In addition, Fonds LISA offers practical guidance. Volunteers help students with administrative procedures, applying for study grants, contacting government agencies, and other challenges that often add pressure during the study period.
A key element of the process is personalised guidance from a buddy who shares a connection to the student's field of study and serves as both a mentor and confidant. Students may approach them with questions about their study programme, as well as broader concerns or difficulties. This combination of financial aid, practical advice, and personal coaching provides enduring support, empowering students to actively shape their own futures.
Making a difference for the future together
The €15,115 contribution, made possible by generous donations from Mervielde’s stakeholders, enabled Fonds LISA to support 10 additional students during the last academic year. Given on Mervielde's 80th anniversary, these funds directly supported students, helping them pursue their degrees and future goals, and empowering them to realise their ambitions.
