A delegation from ABTP (Associação Brasileira dos Terminais Portuários) visited North Sea Port in September, gaining insight into the operations of terminals, logistics operators, and industrial companies across the cross-border port area.
Brazil is a key trading partner for North Sea Port. The programme included visits to Louis Dreyfus Company, which operates a major European storage terminal for Brazilian orange juice, and to Verbrugge International’s Scaldia Terminal in Vlissingen, highlighting the strong cellulose trade flows linking North Sea Port with the Autoridade Portuária de Santos and Portocel.
A boat tour provided an extensive overview of cargo handling and industrial activities throughout the port, offering the delegation direct insight into how various industries coexist and support one another. From orange juice and cellulose to iron ore, cereals, and soybeans, it showcased how integrated ecosystems foster genuine value addition throughout the port community by encouraging internal collaboration.
The visit also focused on plans for a Green Corridor connecting North Sea Port and the Port of Santos. The two ports have signed a memorandum of understanding and are exploring commercial prospects, as well as environmental measures to minimise the ecological impact of trade between Europe and Brazil. Additional discussions are scheduled as the partners aim to expand the corridor and enhance maritime connections.
